PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a 2(1H)-pyridinone derivative which can enhance activities of an eNOS (endothelial nitric oxide synthase) decreased by an LPS (lipopolysaccharide) to increase NO production thereby to mitigate troubles in endothelial cells caused by the LPS, and a therapeutic agent for septicemia comprising the 2(1H)-pyridinone derivative as an effective ingredient. SOLUTION: The therapeutic agent for septicemia comprises as an effective ingredient the 2(1H)-pyridinone derivative represented by formula (I) (wherein PY is a pyridinyl group or a condensed pyridinyl group optionally substituted with one or more lower alkyl groups; R<SP>1</SP>is hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group; R<SP>2</SP>is hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group; Q is nitro group, cyano group, hydrogen atom, carbamoyl group, a halogen atom or an amino group), a pharmacologically acceptable salt thereof, or solvates thereof.
