PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inkjet recorder enabling the influence of mist to make far less by reducing the operation and time required for a preliminary discharge. SOLUTION: The recorder is equipped with a retrieval mechanism section 104 which performs a capping with connecting a cap to a recording means 5 by making a slide member 3 installing the cap 1 moved in following along cam surfaces 13a, 13b by the movement of a carriage 6. A first preliminary discharge position in which an ink is discharged from the recording means into the cap and a second preliminary discharge position in which the distance between the recording means and the cap is smaller than the first preliminary discharge position are provided between the capping position in which the slide member locates at the highest part of the cam surface and a recording area in which the recording means forms an image in a recording medium.
