PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an arc-extinguishing device of a circuit breaker capable of increasing a rated voltage, a rated current and rated breaking capacity of the circuit breaker, without increasing the size of the container of the circuit breaker. SOLUTION: This arc-extinguishing device 2 is provided with an arc-extinguishing gas generation plate 27 (arc-extinguishing gas generation member), arranged by being stacked in the thickness direction of an evacuation plate 26 (insulating member) for generating an arc-extinguishing gas by heat generated by an arc generated, when a moving contact 21b separates from a fixed contact 21a; and three grids 38 held to the evacuation plate 26 through the arc-extinguishing gas generating plate 27. Each grid 38 has a U-shaped form and has a recessed part 39 surrounding a passage of the fixed contact; and the connecting part (back face part) thereof for connecting both leg parts (both side surface parts) is exposed to the arc. A part of the arc-extinguishing gas generating plate 27 is interposed between the back face parts of the respective grids 38. The arc is divided and cooled, while being exposed to the back face parts of the respective grids 38, and extinguished by the arc-extinguishing gas generated from the arc-extinguishing gas generating plate 27.
