PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming a coating film on wood, by which a colored transparent coating film is formed on the surface of worked wood, particularly, a base material of wood to be used as a building material, furniture or the like and to provide coating film-formed wood. SOLUTION: A colorless transparent base coating film 2 is formed on the surface of the base material 1 of wood, a colored transparent lower coating film 3 having≥100μm thickness is formed on the surface of the transparent base coating film 2 and a colored or colorless transparent upper coating film 4 having≥100μm thickness is formed on the surface of the transparent lower coating film 3 so that color tones of the transparent lower coating film 3 and the transparent upper coating film 4 can be made visible and the grain on the surface of the base material 1 of wood can be made visible. As a result, the grain of worked wood can be visible while keeping the transparent feeling even when the colored transparent coating films are formed on worked wood to be used as the building material, furniture or the like and the colors of the coating films are deepened. If a natural atmosphere of wood is harmonized with an atmosphere of inorganic matter such as glass and plastics filled with colored transparent feeling, the worked wood rich in new fashionability and design properties filled with transparent feeling can be obtained.
