<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus with the technology of efficiently printing in a specific color, the image forming apparatus being capable of a printing operation using toner in a cartridge put in a developing position while selective switching between a plurality of cartridges having toners of the specific color takes place. <P>SOLUTION: When at least one of the developing cartridges 4Ka to 4Kd attached to a developing unit has become printable and the temperature rise of the fixing unit is finished so that a toner image is fixable to a sheet, an engine controller outputs a printing preparation completion signal and permits the apparatus to perform the printing operation.
