PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic camera in which the detection accuracy of a focusing position is improved as for the electronic camera of a contrast detection system that irradiates auxiliary light upon AF operation. SOLUTION: The electronic camera is equipped with a color filter consisting of a plurality of colors of color filter elements corresponding to respective pixels, and comprises an imaging element which photoelectrically converts an object image according to a photographing optical system and produces an image signal; a focusing position detection part of detecting the position of the photographing optical system where a focus evaluation value of the object image calculated based on the image signal becomes maximum as a focusing position; an auxiliary light source which illuminates the object upon the detection operation according to the focusing position detection part; and a gain adjustment part which relatively enhances a gain relating to the output of a pixel corresponding to a color including wavelengths of illumination light by means of the auxiliary light source as for the gain relating to the output of the other pixel when illuminating the object with the auxiliary light upon the detection operation by means of the focusing position detection part.
