PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a front fork of a motorcycle or the like which prevents the interference of operability and vibration absorbency of a damper on a back side of a compression stroke. SOLUTION: In a front fork 10 of a motorcycle or the like which includes a body side tube 11 and a wheel side tube 12 fitted to each other so as to be freely accommodated, a damper cylinder 21 mounted in the wheel side tube 12, an oil sump chamber 28 provided in an outer periphery of the damper cylinder 21 and a free piston 34 for hermetically partitioning a piston side oil chamber 27B with respect to the oil sump chamber 28 side, the oil sump chamber 28 is hermetically partitioned between the seal member 80 and the body side tube 11 while providing the seal member 80 to the side of the oil sump chamber 28 with respect to the free piston 34 and hermetically partitioning a gas chamber 81 between the seal member 80 and the free piston 34.
