PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal acoustic engine capable of quickly stopping in response to a request. SOLUTION: This thermal acoustic engine 20 has an air columnar pipe 21 sealed with a hydraulic fluid, a resonance part 23 and a heat accumulator 25 arranged in the air columnar pipe 21, and generates thermal acoustic self-exciting vibration of the hydraulic fluid by forming a temperature gradient between both end parts of the heat accumulator 25. A variable throttle valve 28 is arranged in a loop part 22 of the air columnar pipe 21. A progressive wave for progressing to a high temperature heat exchanger 26 from a low temperature heat exchanger 27 is mainly cut off by closing the variable throttle valve 28, to thereby, surely and quickly damp and vanish the thermal acoustic self-exciting vibration in the air columnar pipe 21, and operation of the thermal acoustic engine 20 is stopped.
