PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for diffusing a chemical designed to prevent the release of a volatile chemical into air when out of use without causing the enlargement of the apparatus. SOLUTION: This apparatus for diffusing the chemical is provided with the volatile chemical in a housing 1 having a suction hole 20 and an exhaust hole 21. The apparatus is designed to prevent the release of the volatile chemical into the air when out of use without causing the enlargement of the apparatus by closing the suction hole 20 and the exhaust hole 21 on either one or both of the suction side and the exhaust side and reducing or losing the ventilation of the housing 1. The housing 1 is provided with an openable and closable vent hole 74 in which the suction hole 20 and the exhaust hole 21 themselves are provided so as to have a lid function or with lid bodies 63 and 64 for opening and closing the suction hole 20 and the exhaust hole 21 as a means for reducing or losing the ventilation of the housing 1.
