The apparatus includes at least one key which is recognized as at least one identical key value according to a key input mode. A portable terminal comprises a key interface apparatus provided in a limited space for entering numerals, characters, and signs and a control unit adapted to recognize a key selection signal, which is inputted from at least one key, as an identical key value according to the key input mode of the key interface apparatus.
