<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive and bright color image display apparatus which hardly causes color breakup without degrading the resolution of a displayed image. <P>SOLUTION: The color image display apparatus is equipped with: a light source means 10 which emits, in time series, first illumination light including first and second wavelength bands and second illumination light including second and third wavelength bands; a polarization converting element 20 which converts the first and second illumination light into illumination light of linearly polarized light in a specified direction; a first polarizing plane rotating element 40 which rotates the polarizing plane of the illumination light by a predetermined angle; a wavelength selective reflecting element 50 which transmits illumination light in the second wavelength band in the first and second illumination light and reflects illumination light in the first and third wavelength bands; a second polarizing plane rotating element 60 which rotates the polarizing plane of the illumination light in the second wavelength band by a predetermined angle; and a reflecting plane 64 which reflects illumination light in the second wavelength band. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
