PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator device for a building, for allowing comings and goings of disabled or elderly people in/from an existing building or a new building, while solving a problem of a safety aspect, a security aspect, or privacy protection aspect. SOLUTION: The elevator device is constituted of: a pair of right and left elevating rails 10 horizontally movable on a veranda 2 side of an apartment house 1 along traveling rails 12, 13; and a portable and detachable elevator body 11 guided by the elevating rails 10 and elevating along the elevating rails 10. The elevator body 11 is carried to the building where there are people coming in and going out of, is attached to a lowermost part of the elevating rails 10, is horizontally moved to the veranda 2 side together with the elevating rails 10. After the elevating rails 10 are locked, the elevating device 15 is driven to make the elevator body 11 move up to a target dwelling unit, an entrance 16 is matched with an entrance 3, and people and cargoes are got in or got off after applying the brake.
