PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a false profile which is caused by a lack of the bit number of video images and image signals, the block noise and the mosquito noise of an MPEG compressed moving image signal without causing the decrease of the sharpness of the image or the shadow(ghost) of an edge at a position slightly separated from the edge of an image. SOLUTION: An image processing circuit includes an out-of-display region signal generating circuit 1 for setting an image signal out of a display region to a prescribed level decided according to the signal level of the display region; a non-linear LPF 2 for comparing a difference between a tap signal for each tap and an input original signal to which an attention is paid, multiplying the image signal to which an attention is paid with a filter coefficient if the difference is larger than a threshold, multiplying the tap signal with a filter coefficient if the difference is smaller than the threshold, and generating an output after each multiplied result is added; a subtractor 3 for making a difference between the output signal of the out-of-display region signal generating circuit 1 and the output of the non-linear LPF 2; a core ring circuit 4 for blocking the difference with a certain frequency, and carrying out an core ring process with a non-linear function having attenuation characteristics; and an adder 5 for generating an output by adding the output of the core ring processing circuit 4 to the output of the non-linear LPF 2.
