PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the deterioration in startability and starting time emission when an estimated stopping position of an engine is not matched to an actual stopping position. SOLUTION: In this engine control device, when the engine stops, stopping position estimating processing (S260) is performed for estimating and storing a stopping position of a crankshaft in a memory, and when the edge is generated in a cam signal outputted from a sensor in response to rotation of a camshaft when staring the engine, a crank position when its edge is generated is specified on the basis of a stopping position estimate in the memory (S310). When the edge is generated in the cam signal when staring the engine, whether or not its edge is matched to the stopping position estimate is determined, and when determining that the edge is not matched (NO : S290), control of the engine is started after specifying the crank position on the basis of a crank signal and the cam signal without using its stopping position estimate by determining that the stopping position estimate is not proper.
