PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic excavator protecting device which can positively protect the operator in a cab even if a chassis of a hydraulic excavator is overturned during execution of work. SOLUTION: The hydraulic excavator is formed of an automotive traveling body 1, a revolving body 2 rotatably mounted on the traveling body 1, a work machine 11 mounted on a front portion of the revolving body 2, and the cab 18 set on a side of the work machine 11, and the hydraulic excavator protecting device is formed by arranging a protective means 22 in the vicinity of the cab 18 closer to the work machine 11, for supporting an upper portion of the cab 18 sideways when the hydraulic excavator is overturned. Thus even if the hydraulic excavator is overturned on the side of the cab 18 during execution of work, the protective means 22 abuts on an area near a roof 18a of the cab 18, having a highest rigidity, to withstand external force, and therefore large deformation or collapse of the cab 18 is prevented, to thereby positively protect the operator in the cab 18.
