PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain shock absorbing performance capable of making overall length an effective displacing part for absorption of shock energy. SOLUTION: This shock absorbing member 1 for a vehicle having an upper surface part 3 and an outer peripheral wall part 2 and a cross-section of which is hollow constitutes its characteristic feature that the outer peripheral wall 2 is of a flat disc shape, the shape of a round part 4 connecting the upper surface part 3 and the outer peripheral wall part 2 to each other satisfies a relation of R≤5t/εwhere a radius of curvature of the round part is R, breaking strain of the material isεand plate thickness is (t), and collision with an object takes place on the upper surface part.
