PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chain-stitch sewing machine capable of preventing the rupture of a thread chain. SOLUTION: The chain-stitch sewing machine 100 comprises: a needle vertical movement mechanism for vertically moving a plurality of sewing needles 21, 22 and 23; a spreader mechanism for interlacing a crossover thread to a plurality of needle threads; a needle plate 11 on which a matter to be sewn C is placed and which forms a feed dog hole 12 and a cross piece part 14; a looper mechanism which is provided under the needle plate and which interlaces a lower thread to the inserted needle threads; a presser mechanism for energizing a presser plate 61 for pressing the matter to be sewn to the needle plate from its upper side; and a feeding mechanism having a feed dog 70 whose tip is made retractable on the upper surface of the needle plate and which carries the matter to be sewn and the thread chain R on the needle plate. The sewing machine 100 forms a chain stitch thread seam and the thread chain to the matter to be sewn by the cooperation of the respective mechanisms. At the presser plate, a groove 63 which faces the crosspiece part at least in rear of the needle dropping position of the needle plate and has a width larger than the thickness of at least one needle thread is formed.
