<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle circumference monitoring device capable of precisely determining an amorphous binarized object extracted from an infrared image and accurately recognizing an object around a vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: An image processing unit 1 determines, when parts of the same shape and the same distance are continuously present above an intended binarized object (YES in S41), that the object is an artificial structure (S42). When parts of the same shape and the same distance are continuously present under the intended binarized object (YES in S43), the object is determined to be an artificial structure (S42). Further, when parts of the same shape and the same distance are continuously present in the same distance at the left end of the intended object (YES in S44), the object is determined to be an artificial structure (S42).
