<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus with the technology of efficiently printing in a specific color, the image forming apparatus being capable of a printing operation using toner in a cartridge put in a developing position while selective switching between a plurality of cartridges having toners of the specific color takes place in the developing position. <P>SOLUTION: Information about a printable state for each developing cartridge attached to a developing unit is determined. In the case where at least one of the developing cartridges attached to the developing unit is in a printable state, the printing operation is performed in a mode matching the result of the determination (in a mode in which a printing preparation process is not performed). Thus, after the input of the print request, the printing operation is performed with the developing cartridge in the printable state. Since the time needed to start the printing operation can be shortened, thus, ensuring efficient monochrome printing. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
