<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively utilize cooling energy by reducing carrying resistance of a recording medium to be cooled. <P>SOLUTION: This cooling device 8 for the recording medium comprises: an endless body 20 which is arranged on the downstream side of a heating and fixing device 7 along the direction of carrying the recording medium P and rotated in the direction of carrying the recording medium P; a carrier body 21 which abuts on an outer peripheral surface of the endless body 20 and which is rotatively driven in such a manner as to hold the recording medium P in the state of sandwiching it between the endless body 20 and the carrier body 21; a cooling part 22 which is arranged in a position to come into contact with an inner peripheral surface of the endless body 20 in an area wherein the recording medium P is held in the state of being sandwiched between the endless body 20 and the carrier body 21; and a heat radiating part 23 which is connected to the cooling part 22. Since the endless body 20 and the carrier body 21 are rotated in the direction of carrying the recording medium P, a jam caused by the carrying resistance can be prevented by reducing the carrying resistance of the recording medium P. The cooling part 22 and the endless body 20 are brought into contact with each other in an arbitrary shape so that the cooling part 22 can be downsized, and the energy for cooling the recording medium P can be effectively utilized. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
