PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus where the optical axis of an imaging optical system is directed to a horizontal direction, a lens group and a shutter move in an optical axis direction, and flare due to light from the outside of a photographing object range hardly occurs. SOLUTION: A digital camera (1) is equipped with the imaging optical system constituted of three lens groups (21, 22 and 23), an imaging device (24) and a shutter unit (25). A prism which folds the optical axis is included in the lens group (21), and most of the optical axis of the imaging optical system is directed to a right-and-left direction. A motor (33) and a driving shaft (35) for moving the lens group for zoom (22) and the shutter unit 25 are arranged upper than the optical axis of the imaging optical system. Then, a situation that light from a light source such as the sun positioned above the photographing object range is reflected by the motor (33) and the driving shaft (35) and advances to the imaging device (24) side passing through a gap between the shutter unit (25) and a lens barrel (12) is prevented, whereby the flare is prevented from occurring.
