PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display device capable of sufficiently cooling a light source while restraining noise caused by an exhaust fan for cooling a light source. SOLUTION: The projection type display device 8 is equipped with a rectangular plate-shaped housing 10 and provided with the exhaust fan 30 supplying cooling air to the light source 12 inside the housing 10. The exhaust fan 30 is attached inside the housing 10 through a holder 32, and faces to an opening 1002 on the side surface of the housing 10. By driving the exhaust fan 30, air in the housing 10 passes through the periphery of the light source 12 and is made to blow off from the opening 1002 to the outside of the housing 10.
