PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic encoder which can avoid crack occurrences without being concerned in the handling, even if a problems specific to sintered body, such as press fit fixation to achieve high-precision rotational detection through rust inhibition and pitch accuracy maintenance is encountered, while obtaining thickness reduction, higher sensitivity and surface damage prevention by the use of the sintered body as a multipolar magnet. SOLUTION: This magnetic encoder 10 is equipped with the ring multipolar magnet 14, having alternate magnetic poles formed circumferentially and a core bar 11 for supporting this multipolar magnet 14. The multipolar magnet 14 is the sintered body produced, by pressing a mixed powder of magnetic powder and binder resin, consisting of nonmagnetic metal powder to be a sintered green compact. The pressing force for the green compact is to be 65 t or larger, and the grain size of the binder is to be 40μm or smaller.
