PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for supporting self-sustained traveling of a pedestrian or a robot by detecting the direction to a location of an active tag and the distance between the active tag and a portable terminal with a sufficient accuracy. SOLUTION: The pedestrian directs the directional antenna of the portable terminal 2 to the direction 31 of the directional antenna of the active tag 1, measures the timing, amplitude, frequency, phase, or variation of the combination of these of the high frequency signal received on real time when switching the directional antenna while the active tag 1 is transmitting high frequency signal, and detects the direction to the location of the active tag and the distance between the active tag 1 and the portable terminal, thereby the pedestrian 404 can across safely without deviating out of the extent of the pedestrian crossing 403.
