PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum carburization sensor, capable of directly grasping the carburizing state of a product to be treated accompanied by vacuum carburizing treatment in real time, of avoiding the effect of history, capable of performing feedback control (operation), of stabilizing the quality of the final product to be treated and capable of corresponding, even to a two-chamber furnace or a continuous furnace, and to provide a vacuum carburizing treatment method using it. SOLUTION: The vacuum carburization sensor 10 is composed of a sensor piece 12 having a composition same or similar to that of a material 1 to be treated, a constant cross-sectional shape and constant length and simultaneously as subjected to carburization treatment in a vacuum treatment furnace with the material to be treated, a pair of the lead wires 14 connected to both ends of the sensor piece and the resistance detecting means 16, installed outside the vacuum treatment furnace to detect the resistance value across a pair of the lead wires. The vacuum carburization sensor 10 is installed in the vicinity of the material 1 which is to be treated to be simultaneously subjected to carburization treatment in a vacuum treatment furnace 2 with the material to be treated, and the carburization quantity of the material to be treated is grasped from the detected resistance value.
