PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ample water amount function allowing a user to easily understand (easy to understand) necessary information in washing and rinsing processes of a washing machine. SOLUTION: The user can select and light an appropriate amount of water among a water amount display means 16 by pushing a water amount setting switch 8a in a display and input part based on an automatic cloth amount detection and at the same time set the water amount by a predetermined amount more by continuously pushing the water amount setting switch 8a for a predetermined time. While the ample water amount function is worked, this washing machine lights an ample water amount display means 17 to let a user know the operation of the function and can respond to the requirement of the user to wash and rinse laundry with ample amount of water.
