PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT IN A PACKET TRANSMISSION NETWORK

A data packet flow transmitted by a terminal (11) is sent through network equipment with which a flow-measuring unit is associated. Said terminal (11) and the measuring unit are connected to a collecting unit (18). The terminal (11) generates a packet flow (21) according to a predetermined rule. The measuring unit analyses the packets of the flow. The terminal transmits the description of the packet flow (25, 27) containing a list of packets to the collecting unit. The flow-measuring unit transmits the flow descriptions (26) containing the sum of sizes of the analysed packets to the collecting unit. The collecting unit (18) identifies each analysed packet according to the flow descriptions and the predetermined rule for correlating (28) the flow and the packet flow descriptions.
