<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absorbent which is used for removing a very small amount of carbon monoxide in a gas or a liquid, has large removal capacity, is hardly affected by other adsorbing materials and is stable and from which a metal is hardly eluted into the liquid even when this absorbent is used in the liquid and which is, if necessary, manufactured from an easily-accessible raw material and contains no halogen. <P>SOLUTION: This carbon monoxide absorbing solid is composed of a copper compound and an ion exchange resin and is manufactured by adding the ion exchange resin in a solution of copper salt and removing the used solvent. Copper (II) salt is used as the copper salt. The copper salt containing no halogen can also be used.
