<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a single-phase induction motor which has the same characteristics during normal rotation and reverse rotation time, has good efficiency even during reverse rotation, and can effectively utilize a slot space, without generating cave-in phenomenon of torque. <P>SOLUTION: In the single-phase induction motor, one end of a coil M1 is connected to one end of a capacitor C at a first connection point 12, a coil A1 is connected to the other end of the capacitor C at a second connection point 14, the other end of the coil M1 is connected to the other end of the coil A1 at a third connection point 20, a speed adjusting coil M2 is arranged in a space at the same position as the coil M1, and a speed adjusting coil A2 is arranged in a space at the same position as the coil A1.
