PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a MgO vapor deposition material which is manufactured with excellent yield, capable of obtaining excellent discharge responsiveness over an extensive temperature range, in particular, in a low-temperature range, and considerably reducing the address IC number without degrading the panel brightness. SOLUTION: The MgO vapor deposition material used to deposit a PDP (Plasma Display Panel) protection film consists of pellets of MgO in which the purity of MgO is≥98% and the relative density is≥90%. The pellets contain one or two or more kinds of elements selected from a group consisting of Fe, Mn, Cr, Co and Ni. When Fe is contained, the concentration of Fe is≥50 ppm and <1,000 ppm. When Mn is contained, the concentration of Mn is≥20 ppm and <1,000 ppm. When Cr is contained, the concentration of Cr is≥20 ppm and <1,000 ppm.
