PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem wherein it is necessary to quickly stop an elevator car and a plunger when unusual condition occurs after the elevator car starts to lower at low speed in the case of rescuing passengers locked in the elevator car. SOLUTION: In the hydraulic elevator, an emergency rescue device for controlling an emergency lowering valve for lowering the elevator car at low speed when rescuing passengers is provided in a landing of the elevator. When unusual operation occurs in the elevator car or the plunger during the low-speed lowering of the elevator car by operation of the emergency lowering valve, a pressure sensor detects unusual operation of the elevator car and the plunger, and operation of the emergency lowering valve is stopped to cope with the unusual operation.
