The device (10) is designed as a narrow cylindrical housing (24) made of an upper (34) and a lower part (36) and accommodating a pushing element (18) acting on the spring (20) supported tube (16) acting as the catheter holding element (14) in combination with an inner core. When the catheter (12) has reached its final destination the upper part of the housing (34) is rotated, activating the pushing element (18), which is moved against the spring (20). The outer end of the catheter (52) is pushed by the tube (54) off the inner core without causing an abrupt motion.
