A method of reporting a combination of data samples at the physical layer of a communications network, wherein the data samples are provided over a time period N, and the time period N is divided into M time periods Tj of length k, the method including the following steps: receiving individual data samples xi, determining the time period Tj to which each data sample xi is to contribute; determining M sums Sj of each time period Tj combining the M stored sums Sj to obtain a value of P (power); and reporting the value of P. The invention has its application in neighbour cell selection and monitoring measurements of power levels in GERAN (GSM/EDGE Radio Access Network) technology. |
