PURPOSE: To increase energy density and charging/discharging efficiency of a battery by means of specific constitution of a negative electrode in a secondary battery comprising a negative electrode with carbonaceous material as the negative electrode active material, a positive electrode and non-aqueous electrolyte. CONSTITUTION: A negative electrode 2 is made by sintering carbonaceous material (e.g. binder pitch). Preferably, it is of carbon sintered body of volume density 0.8-1.95g/ml. Otherwise, the negative electrode 2 is constituted of carbon sintered body made by sintering carbonaceous material and a collector of metal or alloy of preferably melting point over 1000 deg.C (e.g. copper, nickel, stainless steel, or iron, or the respective alloy). Consequently, filling density of negative electrode active material is increased by a quantity corresponding to non use of the convectional binder, so that a negative electrode of large reaction area is obtained. |
