Maintenance need is determined by an interface between a robot controller (RC) (60) for controlling a robot (62) and a first system (FS) (64). An interface (66) between the RC and the FS includes a number of interface points (X5-X8) and picks up two signals from a robot's axle. An independent claim is also included for a system for determining maintenance needs for axles in a robot arm on an industrial robot.
