Fading frequency estimation using a complex product of pilot symbols

There is provided an apparatus and a method for estimating a fading frequency of incoming received waves in a receiving station of a radio communication system or radio transmission system. These enable a fading frequency to be estimated efficiently and accurately without substantially complicating the configuration of the system. To this end, the apparatus includes a calculation unit (12) for calculating a magnitude of a complex product of two symbols that are received at different instants, and an estimation unit (13) for estimating a fading frequency according to the calculated magnitude of the complex product. The complex product does not depend on the phase deviation between the two symbols, unlike the inner product. The estimated fading frequency is used for channel estimation.
