April 14,1939, No. 11407 [Class 114] In a high-speed motor-boat having three or more closely-grouped engines 18, 19, spaced athwartships, and driving propellers 10, 11, beneath the boat, the outermost engines 19 are arranged aft of the others 18, and each of the outermost engines has the forward end of its driving shaft connected through gearing 15 with a rearwardly and downwardly inclined propeller shaft 14. The rearward end of the driving-shaft of each of the inner engines 18 is connected with a rearwardly and downwardly inclined propeller-shaft 17. Such gear 15 has its input shaft above the output shaft so that the propeller-shaft 14 lies beneath the engine 19. In the case of a three engined vessel the central engine is arranged on the fore-and-aft centre line of the boat. |
