A stacking unit, made from stainless steel (10) and aluminum (6) or alloy panels to form a series cavities with lengthwise axes (4) to receive radioactive materials, is assembled with the aid of stainless steel bolts (28). The aluminum or alloy panels are fitted with stainless steel nuts (52) inserted into holes (42) in the panels, each nut having a threaded hole (56) that aligns with a hole (48) in the panel edge to receive the end of a bolt, and a projection (58) that fits into a notch (60) in the inner wall of the hole. The bolts are inserted through elongated holes (32) in the stainless steel panels which have parallel sides (32a) lying parallel to the lengthwise axes (4) of the cavities, and are fitted with anti-rotation (38) and expansion washers. |
