A scoop is pivotally mounted on the underside of a frame which can be raised and lowered relative to the vehicle chassis. A first actuator lowers the frame when the vehicle is moving in order to drive the scoop into the soil and then raises the frame in an alternating manner. A second actuator tilts the scoop forward before it is driven into the soil and then allows the scoop to spring back into position after it has been driven into the ground so that a piece of turf or peat is removed from the ground.
