The invention relates to a method of removing the borate anion that is present in aqueous solutions. For said purpose, the invention comprises a method of preparing a series of hybrid materials which are prepared by functionalising or anchoring different saccharides on inorganic matrices. The inventive method is advantageous in that borate anions present in aqueous solutions can be removed simply by bringing the solution to be treated into contact with the prepared hybrid material.
