<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separation element and a separation/detection method capable of selectively and efficiently separating/quantity-determining a plurality of different materials according to physicochemical characteristics by mixing particles with a function of specifically capturing an optional object material in a sample before introduction to a separation part, forming the specific conjugate material of the particle and the sample, carrying the conjugate particle in the flow path of the separation element at a fixed flow rate and applying an external force field such as an electric field, a magnetic field and centrifugal force simultaneously. <P>SOLUTION: A mass transfer device is provided with the flow path 14 for carrying fluid containing an object material, a carrying means for carrying the fluid in the flow path at the fixed flow rate, and imparting means 10 and 13 for simultaneously imparting different kinds of force to the material in the fluid carried by the carrying means.
