<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the quantity of an out-gas from a pixel definition film to prevent deterioration of an organic film, in an organic EL device. <P>SOLUTION: For an electroluminescent display device provided with the pixel definition film having a sufficiently small thickness in order to form at least one barrier layer on the pixel definition film capable of reducing the quantity of the out-gas from the pixel definition film to prevent deterioration of a luminescent part by the out-gas and to easily implement a post-process using a laser thermal transfer method, this electroluminescent element equipped with a substrate, a plurality of pixel electrodes formed on the substrate, the pixel definition film having openings for exposing predetermined parts of the pixel electrodes while being positioned on the pixel electrodes, and the at least one barrier layer positioned on the upper part and/or in the inside of the pixel definition film is provided.
