<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery management device capable of performing battery charge at a power supply level dependent on traveling conditions of a vehicle in battery charge accompanied by an engine start. <P>SOLUTION: In the battery management device, an engine control section 5 changes the power supply level of an alternator 4 between two stages (normal charging level, boost charging level) in charging operation accompanied by an engine start based on the fact whether the ratio of an engine stop period to an engine start period is higher than a predetermined reference level or not in a predetermined period in the past from an engine start time.
