PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized inexpensive photodetector capable of simply displaying the presence of weak fluorescence or the like which produces a change by the irradiation of a sample with light. SOLUTION: A microplate reader 1 is equipped with one light emitting part 5 for supplying exciting light to each of regions 4 to be measured and one light detection part 6 for detecting fluorescence 11 emitted from each of the regions 4 to be measured. The light emitting part 5 and the light detection part 6 are provided on the reflecting surface 7, which is formed to the leading end part 30a of the same light guide body 30 made of glass, at the same position. An XY stage 20 for scaning the light emitting part 5 and the light detection part 6 within a plurality of the regions 4 to be measured is provided. Further, the microplate reader 1 is equipped with a display part 8 for radiating visible light 12 in visually confirmed quantity when the fluorescence 11 emitted from each of the regions 4 to be measured is detected to display the presence of the fluorescence 11 by the visible light 12. The display part 8 is arranged at the position on the side opposite to a plurality of the regions 4 to be measured with respect to the light emitting part 5 and the light detection part 6 and approaching the light emitting part 5 and the light detection part 6.
