PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus where a circuit scale is reduced without markedly deteriorating transmission energy and transmission directional characteristic in a two-dimensional array ultrasonic probe. SOLUTION: Two-dimensionally arrayed ultrasonic vibration elements provided in the ultrasonic probe 20 are divided into a prescribed size to form a plurality of sub arrays, and an internal sub array element connection part 31 in an element selection part 30 connects the ultrasonic vibration elements existing at a nearly equal distance from the transmission converging point of transmission ultrasonic waves in common in a prescribed direction in each sub array. Next, an inter-sub array element connection part 32 additionally connects ultrasonic vibration elements connected in common within a prescribed sub array with those connected in common in a sub array adjacent to the sub array based on a distance to the transmission converging point of the transmission ultrasonic waves to form a group of the ultrasonic vibration elements having the number of channels nearly equal to the number of the driving channels of a transmission part 2.
