PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power transmission device capable of avoiding and suitably dealing with problems such as shortage of torque and/or engine speed, engine noises and/or deterioration of fuel economy, and generation of abnormal noises caused by resonance even though a driven instrument with various loads is connected to a PTO. SOLUTION: In the power transmission device, a fluid coupling 2 having a lock-up clutch 5 is provided between a transmission T/M equipped with the PTO 20 connected to the driven instrument and an engine E, and the lock-up clutch 5 is engaged when the engine speed is over a predetermined threshold Y. The device comprises a control device having an engaging mode for increasing idle engine speed of the engine E to be higher than the threshold Y when the PTO 20 transmits the power to the driven instrument and a disengaging mode for maintaining the idle engine speed to be basically lower than the threshold Y and a switch 22 for switching these modes according to the load of the driven instrument.
