PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector which corrects a trapezoidal distortion by accurately determining an inclination angle of a screen without depending on distance measurement accuracy. SOLUTION: A control section 3 corrects distance data so that inclinations of distance data outputted from arithmetic sections 32, 42 can be approximately fixed. When a distance to a planar object such as a screen is measured, if error is not included, the measured distance data are also linearly changed. The distance data are then corrected to approximately fix the inclinations of the distance data, the error included in the distance data is excluded and a trapezoidal distortion can be highly accurately corrected.
