PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filter medium for an air filter the dust capturing efficiency and capturable amount of which can be enhanced, and to provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: This filter medium 10 is composed of a member for which oil-repellent fibers 12 whose surface is oil repellent and lipophilic fibers 14 for which an oil film layer is formed on the surface are commingled. Thus, since there is no part constituted of only the oil-repellent fibers 12 in the filter medium 10 for the air filter, a dust layer does not grow large on the surface of the oil-repellent fibers 12. Thus, since clogging is not generated by dust, even when the oil-repellent fibers 12 of high dust capturing efficiency are contained in the filter medium for the air filter, the service life of the air filter is not shortened by clogging.
