PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pencil lead giving dense written mark and high fixability (resistant to staining) and causing little lowering of density in high-humidity environment. SOLUTION: The pencil lead giving dense written mark and high fixability and causing little lowering of density in high-humidity environment is produced by using an impregnating component having a kinetic viscosity of≥200 mm<SP>2</SP>/sec and≤200,000 mm<SP>2</SP>/sec at 25°C and≥2 mm<SP>2</SP>/sec and≤4,000 mm<SP>2</SP>/sec at 100°C and a body material consisting of graphite in combination with a substance cleaving along the face of Miller index (001) or (0001) and having polarized structure.
