PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a system for producing an endohedral fullerene in a high yield.
SOLUTION: An open-cage fullerene 17 with a thirteen-membered ring opening is formed by attaching a chemically modifying group to a fullerene. Oxygen atoms having a positive electron affinity are attached to the opening. An electrophilic group is attached to that part of the cage which is opposite to the opening of the formed open-cage fullerene 17. The open-cage fullerene 17 with its opening kept oriented outwardly is vapor-deposited on an electrode rod 15 by effecting the vapor deposition while applying a positive voltage to the electrode 15. The vapor-deposited rod is immersed in a sodium chloride solution 13. First, by agitating the sodium chloride solution 13 under a weak negative voltage, the ionized sodium ions are electrically bound to the opening of the open-cage fullerene 17. Next, by making the voltage more negative, the sodium ions attached to the opening are allowed to be occluded. Finally, by irradiating with ultraviolet rays, the chemically modifying group which constitutes the opening is released. Then, the fullerene with occluded sodium atoms is allowed to self-restore to an endohedral fullerene whose cage is composed of six-membered rings and five-membered rings.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
|
